What the authors say
"The organisation was flawless and that's WHY this festival and the last were such a success. It's a great mix of contributors, organisers and audience. There's no festival quite like it."
"I have never been so well looked after at any literary festival - the atmosphere is completely unique, and the islanders are literate, engaging and inspiring. If you haven't been, go! You won't forget it." Manda Scott
"So jealous of everyone at Alderney Lit Fest this weekend. Last year was one of the best times of my life. One of the best book festivals in the WORLD!!!! If you missed this year, plan to go to the next. I kid you not. Do it."

About the Festival
The Alderney Literary Festival is the Channel Island's boutique history festival, where people who enjoy reading and writing about the past come together to talk books and have a great weekend.
The Festival takes place over a long weekend every March in the historic Island Hall, Alderney's seat of government, built in 1763. We keep audiences small to create an intimate and friendly feel to this 'salon' style gathering of historians, biographers, novelists, and fans of historical literature.
In the Festival, history is explored through factual and fiction writing: biographies, thrillers and crime stories, the fantastical and the supernatural, romance, adventure, warfare and political analysis, and even poetry. We ask our guest authors to throw new light on old events and reinterpret them anew to make history relevant in the present time.
In 2017, we inaugurated a special speaker slot - the Festival's Debut Novelist - inviting a new author who we believe is one to watch for the future. We select our Debut Novelist - historian or fiction author - based on the book's combined criteria of: readability & quality of the language, comprehensibility of the research, and the ability to bring that period to life.
The Alderney Literary Festival would not be possible without the continuing generous financial support of The States of Alderney and The Guernsey Arts Commission, and our individual Events sponsors.
